In this article from Bob Steinman, President, IR Security & Safety Americas, he talks about the growing sophistication and broader spectrum of choices available in electronic access control is leading to greater integration with total building controls and systems, with a consequent increase in the economic value of an opening that goes beyond security concerns.

As electronics play an ever-increasing role in managing a building’s openings, the added initial investment will be more than justified by the increased economic value that the opening generates. Access security and egress safety features are being combined into systems that also generate data for asset tracking or personnel scheduling. These and many other applications are reshaping the role of the opening and providing solutions that can be “dollarized.” The resulting economic benefits are making electrified solutions more easily affordable by generating a much larger payback.

Colorado Doorways Featured Project, January 2006 - Denver School of Science & Technology

The 66,000 square foot charter high school - inspired by a conversation between Colorado Governor Bill Owens and Microsoft founder Bill Gates - is the state's first school designed as a totally wireless, laptop environment. With an academic program emphasizing team teaching and project-based learning, it incorporates a number of dynamic features not found in traditional high schools.

The facility itself is a teaching tool, with exposed mechanical and data communication systems, hands-on demonstration laboratories and a focus on sustainable architectural design.

Sustainability was a major consideration during the design of DSST, situated on an east-west orientation to limit solar exposure, control daylight and take advantage of southeasterly breezes. The site also has limited pavement; deciduous plants, grass and trees lesson the impact of summer heat loads.

Colorado Doorways, Inc. is proud to have been the sole supplier of doors, frames and architectural hardware for this one of a kind school.

Corbin Russwin Introduces the New DC6000 Series Door Closer

Colorado Doorways and Corbin Russwin Architectural Hardware are pleased to introduce the DC6000 Series Door Closer. This Grade 1 closer meets ANSI/BHMA A156.4 requirements and features captured valves, self-drilling screws and several new arms.

In addition to these items, internal changes have also been made: chrome silicon wire has replaced music wire; the standard oil has been replaced with extended temperature oil; and one half-pound of material has been added to the closer casting.

The DC6000 series is the ideal choice for high-use openings or openings that must meet ADA requirements, such as schools, office building, health care facilities and retail complexes.
