In this article from Bob Steinman, President, IR Security & Safety Americas, he talks about the growing sophistication and broader spectrum of choices available in electronic access control is leading to greater integration with total building controls and systems, with a consequent increase in the economic value of an opening that goes beyond security concerns.

As electronics play an ever-increasing role in managing a building’s openings, the added initial investment will be more than justified by the increased economic value that the opening generates. Access security and egress safety features are being combined into systems that also generate data for asset tracking or personnel scheduling. These and many other applications are reshaping the role of the opening and providing solutions that can be “dollarized.” The resulting economic benefits are making electrified solutions more easily affordable by generating a much larger payback.

Colorado Doorways Featured Project, February 2006 - Marriot Residence Inn, Downtown Denver

Two major challenges were encountered with the 14 story hotel - honoring the existing architectural context while producing a sharp, modern building and developing an innovative architectural treatment.

The hotel incorporates many elements of early 20th century commercial architecture including traditional brick cladding, corbelled brick dentil detail, granite column bases and wainscot.

Throughout construction the complexity of the exterior closure systems and proximity to adjacent streets proved challenging. A series of precisely scheduled access solutions allowed multiple trades to safely and efficiently exceed all scheduled milestons.

Colorado Doorways, Inc. is proud to have been the sole supplier of doors, frames and architectural hardware for downtown Denver's newest hotel. Utilizing the latest in access technology, we have provided the Marriot and its guests with a secure and safe environment.

Marshfield DoorSystems Receives Less Bottom Rod Approvals for 45-90 Minute Doors.

"auxiliary pin that fires into the side of the door ..." "no need for a metal edge and astragal"

Colorado Doorways, Inc. and Marshfield DoorSystems, Inc. are proud to announce approval from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Intertek Testing Services - Warnock Hersey (ITS-WH) to label 45 to 90-minute fire-rated mineral core doors with surface vertical rod less bottom rod.

This new approval boasts machining for an auxiliary pin that fires into the side of the door rather than the floor, as well as no need for a metal edge and astragal. The approval is also ADA friendly.

Benefits of the new less bottom rod approvals:

• Eliminates cumbersome requirements to prepare the floor for dust-proof floor strikes and the associated maintenance of cleaning the floor-strikes to ensure effective fire-rated operation of the opening.
• Improves aesthetics by removing the need for the bottom channel containing a door-to-floor fire pin.
