Project NewsColorado Doorways Featured Project, February 2007 - Meridian Elementary School This project, one of many Colorado Doorways has done for the Adams 12 Five Star School District, takes every opportunity to seize educational advantages to benefit the students. It is a single-story, steel-frame structure with a brick veneer. In addition to classrooms, the school features a media center, administrative offices, a gymnasium and a mechanical mezzanine. High ceilings and clerestory windows flood natural light into the building's many open group-study areas. The 68,000 square foot facility cost over $7 million and provides the district with a first class educational facility. The school's science emphasis may be its most unique feature. the entry features a large geological rock that displays different time periods complete with fossil imprints of fern leaves, crustaceans, dinosaur bones and footprints. This theme continues with a custom inlaid carpet compass, a WeatherBug weather station and a analemmatic sundial. IVES through-wire hinges provide an aesthetically pleasing power transfer solution without significant door and frame preparation for new construction and retrofit work. Monitor hinges utilize an internal switch to send a signal when the door is opened.
