New Requirements for Annual Fire Door Inspections
Colorado Doorways, Inc. Becomes First Distributor in Colorado with Certified Fire Door Inspectors

Properly operating fire doors help protect property and save lives in the event of any emergency. Defective, damaged or non-functional fire doors can lead to tragic results and may subject building owners and managers to catastrophic losses and increased legal liability. Recognizing the importance of fire doors in preserving life and property, the National Fire Protection Association recently began requiring annual inspections of all fire door assemblies, including swinging doors and builders’ hardware (NFPA 80, 2007).

This change is highly significant to all building owners. Now, just like elevators, sprinkler systems and fire alarms, fire door openings must be inspected by a certified third-party to maintain NFPA compliance. NFPA 80's language in paragraph 5-2.1 requires fire door assemblies to be inspected 'not less than annually, and a written record of the inspection shall be signed and kept for inspection by the AHJ.'

Ives Announces Continuous HingesIves Continuous Hinges

Ives Continuous Hinges are designed to last the life of the building. The unique design distributes the weight of the door along the entire length of the frame, reducing the high amount of stress placed upon the top traditional butt hinge. Not only does this prevent hinge failure, it also keeps your door in constant alignment, eliminating the chance of door sag. These characteristics make continuous hinges suitable for high use/high traffic doors.

The design of a continuous hinge eliminates the gap between the door and the frame. The absence of gap also prevents fingers from being pinched, making it a safer device than traditional hinges. These these benefits result in higher efficiency and less maintenance, maximizing the value of your opening investment.

Ives offers to types of continuous hinges:

Aluminum Geared
Geared continuous hinges utilize a single gear section for the leaf and a separate gear section for the frame side of the door. The two are held in place together by a full length cover channel and rotate on a series of bearings.

Pin and Barrel
Pin and Barrel hinges share many of the same characteristics of a traditional hinge. Both have a center pin and rolled knuckles. However,a continuous Pin and Barrel hinge stretches along the entire length of the frame. IVES offers both stainless steel and primed steel to best match your specific application.
